Roadway Superintendent - NCDOT (opportunity to progress to General Superintendent)

Salary: up to $120,000 (depending on experience)
I have a fantastic opportunity for a Roadway Superintendent with ambitions to progress into a General Superintendent or an experienced General Superintendent who is experienced with the additional responsibility a GS takes on. My client is open to speaking to both and will provide training for those who want to make a step up into that role and slowly transition them under the guidance of their world-class leadership team.
This company has been a key player in infrastructure development across the Carolinas since the mid 90s. They own quarries, operate asphalt plants, and manage a specialized logistics fleet, enabling them to oversee projects from raw material extraction to completion. Their portfolio includes highways, bridges, and commercial developments.
They've secured over $100 million in contracts with the North Carolina Department of Transportation and other clients. Notable projects include a $60M+ contract for the rehabilitation and resurfacing of a major interchange, and a $25M+ million contract for roadway and bridge reconstruction as well as a $500+ million expressway project.
With a workforce of over 500 employees, they've constructed more than 15,000 miles of roadways. Their client list features prominent names like FedEx, Toyota, and major homebuilders. Looking ahead, they're expanding into the Carolina Core region, aiming to capitalize on increased infrastructure spending and upcoming megasite projects.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Oversee daily field operations for roadway and highway construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
- Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and DOT inspectors to maintain compliance with NCDOT specifications and contract requirements.
- Manage and schedule crews, equipment, and materials to optimize productivity and efficiency on-site.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations to maintain a safe work environment.
- Monitor project progress, troubleshoot issues, and provide solutions to keep construction on track.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong understanding of NCDOT roadway/highway construction standards, including grading, paving, and drainage.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and DOT contracts.
- Proven leadership and team management skills with experience directing crews and subcontractors.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to project challenges.
- Proficiency in project management software, scheduling tools, and DOT reporting systems.
