SCDOT Level 3 Asphalt Lab Quality Control Manager

Location: South Carolina

Salary: up to $85,000 (depending on experience)

As more and more Highway projects roll out in South Carolina it's important that the quality of the Asphalt is second to none. Millions of commuters rely on these roads every single day and quality Asphalt is important to ensure smooth daily transport as well as long-lasting quality roads

 

My client is looking for a new Quality Control Lab Manager who will supervise a highly capable team, conduct plant visits to make sure their Asphalt Hot Mix meets industry requirements and have the autonomy to make changes that will impact the direction of the team going forwards. They've constructed over 15,000 miles of highway in the last 30 years, sold over $2bn worth of Asphalt and have plans to invest in their Asphalt Plant operations over the next few years with some sites moving to bigger, better locations as well as funding the team to go through whatever certifications they want to gain - each successful certification comes with a pay rise as well!

 

They're looking for somebody with already holds their Level 3 HMA certification or someone who has the ambition and ability to obtain it within the next 12 months. You'll be leading laboratory operations, conducting training and visiting sites around South Carolina to ensure the labs are running to industry standards

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and ensure compliance with quality control standards for asphalt mix production.
  • Conduct and analyze material testing, making adjustments to optimize mix performance.
  • Maintain and calibrate lab equipment while ensuring safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Communicate effectively with plant personnel, DOT officials, and project teams.
  • Train and mentor QC technicians on testing procedures and industry best practices.

 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Hot Mix Asphalt Level 3 certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong data analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with lab equipment, mix design, and quality control processes.
